Mere Poetry Competition
The 2009 Mere Literary Festival competition is now open and is for an original poem not exceeding 40 lines. There are major cash prizes of £200, £100 and £50 plus 3 x runners-up of £15 and certificates of distinction and merit.
In addition the short-listed entries are showcased at a festival event with the audience voting for its prize-winners – the Poetry in the Grove awards. Entry fees are £3.50 for the first entry and £2.20 subsequent entries and £1 per poem for the junior sections.
The senior judge for the open poetry is Louis de Bernières, author of Captain Corelli’s Mandolin, Birds without Wings etc. Although best known for his novels, Louis de Bernières also writes poetry which he often performs in concerts with The Antonius Players.
The announcement of prize-winners, adjudications and awards form the finale of Mere Literary Festival Oct.12th. -18th. and proceeds of the competition and festival go to the charity Mere & District Linkscheme (Reg. No: 1062328).
