Live Literature Consortium - Open Call for Work

The Live Literature Consortium (LLC)

Open Call for Work for Lit Up showcase and conference series 2009/10

The LLC has funding in place to present three live literature showcase and conference events in 2009/2010.  They first two will take place on:

June 11th 2009 at Brewery Arts in Kendal, Cumbria

September 24th 2009 at The Albany, Deptford, London.

These events are intended to showcase the best of live literature and spoken word available in the UK and internationally.  The audience will be made up primarily of venue programmers and directors with an interest in live literature for their venues.  In addition, there will be producers, artists and other literature professionals in attendance.  This represents a fantastic opportunity for live literature and spoken word artists to showcase their work.

At each event, there are a number of opportunities for artists and companies to show an excerpt (up to 15 minutes) of their work to delegates as part of the programme.  The LLC now makes this OPEN CALL for work to be included in the June and September showcases.  We are looking for high quality and innovative work suitable for presentation in arts venues.

The work :

·         must be able to be described as live literature in any of its forms;

·         can be complete or an excerpt from a longer piece;

·         must be a maximum of 15 minutes long and no shorter than 10 minutes;

·         fit into a programme of high quality live literature work; and

·         be in final form and ready to be presented at one of the Lit Up events.

The LLC is able to offer an all inclusive fee of £250 for each 15 minute piece of work towards the costs of presenting the work or excerpt.

If you are interested in showcasing your work at these events, please tell us what you have to offer.  Send to Jill Bellamy, Lit Up Producer, at litupproducer@googlemail.com by no later than 5pm on 11 March 2009.  Please include if possible links to any live recordings available and/or dates of events at which the work can be seen.  Please also state which of the two events you wish to be considered for however, the LLC reserves the right to make all final programming decisions.

We will get back to successful applicants by early May at the latest.  If you have not heard from us by then please assume you have not been successful on this occasion.  There will be a further open call later in the year for work for the February showcase.
