The Asian Writer invites submissions to its New Writing Competition
The Asian Writer New Writing Competition is for poems of up to 40 lines, max of three; fiction of up to 2,500 words, max of three.
It is particularly aimed at encouraging British Asian writers.
All short listed entries will be published on our blog, with the winning entries published on our website and in the new Annual.
Free entry, open to ALL.
Closing date: 12th December 2008.
Prizes; The winning entries in each category - poetry and fiction - will win a £50 Waterstones Gift card. They will both receive a copy of The Wasted Vigil by Nadeem Aslam courtesy of Faber. The most promising overall entry will also receive a copy of the latest Writers and Artists Yearbook 2009 - http://www.writersandartists.co.uk
Entries can take the form of a short story, poem or first chapter on any theme.
You may submit up to three pieces which must be new writing, and previously unpublished (online or in print).
Short stories must be no longer than 2500 words
Poems must be no longer than 40 lines
Please ensure that your writing is typed in no bigger than 12pt, 1.5 spaced.
A critique is not offered on any work submitted.
Save your file as a .doc file, with the title of your piece as the file name.
There will be one official winner.
Short listed entries wiill be published in the New Writing section of our blog. The winning entry will appear on our website and in The Asian Writer Annual 2009. An online anthology of all the best entries will be published in March 2009. The winner will be selected by The Asian Writer, and no correspondence will be entered into about the winning entry.
The competition is open to all writers, whether published or unpublished.
All entries must be written in English. If you are a published writer, please state this on the entry form identifying where you have been published. The Asian Writer New Writing Competition is aimed particularly at encouraging British Asian writers but you do NOT have to be Asian or even British to enter. Your entry will only receive an acknowledgement if you request one. Short listed entries will be selected in January 2009 and will be informed by post.
The winning entry will be announced on February 22nd 2008 and will appear in the March edition of The Asian Writer.
